    Hello Everyone,
Here is one of the vintage tuxedos I have in my collection. The estate that this came from was from a gentleman who migrated to the USA from Poland in 1902. The gentleman was a chemist is Tennessee. The tuxedo is complete with coat, waistcoat and two pair of trousers. The entire suit is still in very wonderful condition. The trousers are high waist trousers with fishtail back (as most were during that period) and have buttons for suspenders as well. One pair of trousers still has a tag pinned inside from either a cleaner or tailor. I'm amazed at the impeccable tailoring that went into this. A very well made garment indeed. Gentlemen, in that period of time, seemed very small compared to men in today's world. This one is a 38 Reg coat, waistcoat and 31" waist trousers. Just my size. Many of the suits and tuxedos from that era, I typically see, range in size from 34" thru 38" chest size.

Thanks for stopping in for a look!!!

    Scott

      Thanks Jenni!!
The original owner brought this over with him from Poland, so it could very well date into the late 1890's. This is the only tuxedo with tails in my collection. I do, however, own four other suits. But, most are complete mourning suits dating from Oct. 1900 to Sept. 1910.

With respect Scott, and in all seriousness -- I'm curious on what sort of occasion nowadays one would/could actually *wear* such splendid vintage clothing...??

Not that there'd be the slightest thing wrong with the idea of just 'collecting/preserving' such fine things in a closet, (maybe that's the only truly sensible thing to do with 'em?) but I think I'd be somewhat hesitant to risk damaging them inadvertently if I'd try to...all it'd take is one clumsy waitron with a trayful of badly balanced red wine glasses...?? <eeek><nono>

      Hi AnythingObscure!!
In today's world, I don't believe anyone would dress this formal, unless it was for reenactment or theater acting. With that being said, there are a few places on the web that manufactures and sells Victorian and Edwardian reproductions for reenactments and theater. So, I don't think anyone would want to risk damaging these fine clothes by wearing them for that reason.
These are a part of our history and I feel they should be carefully preserved for other generations to enjoy. For now, I keep them stored in moth proof suit bags in a climate controlled storage, along with most of my collection.

Thanks SO much for the thoughtful answer Scott -- I've gotta believe I'd completely agree. :-) My one and only 'antique clothing item' is an old wool topcoat (which I've shown here already, and just now refreshed with belated thanks to those who've shared the love since I first posted it) which, though likely not nearly as old (or fine) as the wonderful things you've been showing, I still don't allow myself to actually *wear* very often if at all anymore, simply because I don't wanna be the one to inadvertently 'kill' it after its already survived so long...?
      All the best, Tim :-)
