16 X 16 is an odd size-- it looks like one edge was cut down, it probably started life as a 16 X 20.

It looks like an enlargement of a smaller photograph. Both the original and this enlargement were probably from the same era, which I would say was about 1880- 1900 time frame.

I don't think the "cut down" will hurt value that much. It looks pretty good in the frame and I would think it would bring about $25- $40 if sold on ebay.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

I paid considerably more than $40! It has a frame that is supposed to be of the same period.

I may be a little low on the estimate, but even on a very good day I wouldn't expect it to reach $100.

Had it been a Civil War era albumen of two slaves and the same large size, I would expect it to bring $800- $1200.

If you like the item then it doesn't matter what the true value of it is.
