This amazing "so ugly that it's beautiful" purse is late 50's-1960's from Veldore, Houston, TX. Label says "hand decorated original".....that's for sure. It features a needlepoint floral design with beads and cabs glued on. I LOVE IT for many reasons - #1 a dear friend from Texas gave me this. It belonged to her grandmother and was never used, but a perfect gift to me!
There are some Veldores online, but not with velvet fabric or as perfect. Large 14"x11"x4" snap framed black velvet w/satin lining. #2 - the design and colors of course!, #3 - big enough to put a pair of flip-flops in if my 60's kitten heels start barking....and (last, not least) it's quite a conversation starter or ender if I had to swing it.....I would not, just sounds good.

The red stones almost give an electric look, his beautiful bag must have been the highest in fashion when it was made, exquisite !~
I think it is very pretty!
Absolutely gorgeous bag inside and out, the floral design is so lovely and wonderful satin lining, great piece Mary
Perfect gift! I don't find it ugly... So quirky and large, if you decide to use it, sure it will be a conversation piece :-D
Phil - yes, red like car or roadside reflectors LOL. I see one of them is off track... The company also made wood boxy purses w/decopage images and those are very popular now. Thanks for your comment!
Mrs T - thank you, I think so too. I really am happy to carry it.
Jenni - thanks as always for your nice comments. It's a very nice quality item, a little over the top - but so wonderful for that reason.
Broochman - yes a LOT of work and lots of interesting glass beads.
Kyra - it was THE perfect gift. My friend and I were at antique mall. I saw a similar one and she said "no, I have a better one at home for you", and gave this beauty to me. Her grandmother had a family-run jewelry/gift store. I think this was in the shop for awhile. The same friend gave me some costume jewelry too - some of which I returned last year because she should have the family "jewels" in case her niece wants them someday. I can't return this purse though!
Thank you friends for your loves: hunterqlee, watchsearcher, Scott, Fort, officialfuel, vinyl :-)
Sweet!
Thank you Elisabeth - I am happy to have this unusual purse. It's definitely a conversation starter - LOL.
Thanks also to friends: Kevin, Manikin, aura, deegee2u.
OMG that is beyond funny. I saw this purse and immediately wondered if you have seen it! Of course you have...it's yours! haha I'm so serious. I actually think my grandmother had one very similar to this! It' s so awesome!
Share - you know how much I love vintage framed 50's-70's purses - hey I carry my RW&B purse you gave me with pride! I love it dear! This was from a friend and it's so great too. She was tickled that I use it. The old purses are so cool. Yes, I would love a Kelly bag....I am not into the logo bags (LV,MCM, Chanel, Coach, Gucci, the duck company, ha ha, it's so boring to me...what's it called?) unless they leave the logos off the surface....logos in your face are so wanna be. ...yikes, I guess I told you how I really feel....XOXO
hahaha right?!? Oh yea, the doony and bourke??? What the heck is a duck for in that name? I don't get it. I always pass on those but hey, I just picked up a bag for 19 bucks, got home and found it's a freakin $2800.00 bag!!! No logos on it either! I'm tryin to get rid of a Chanel necklace right now but I'm havin a hard time authenticating it! I just can't wear it, it's only 5/8". Bawahahaha I guess size does matter!!! OMG I have no idea what's gotten into me today!!! shaking my head!
Dooney and Burke the dumb ducks!! Thank you, I remember friends in San Diego who loved that company, but to me - not interesting. Looked like copy of Hermes or Longchamp leather. But.... I do appreciate others who research and collect. Just not my taste. XOXO I would love to see your $19 bag! And, Chanel is copied SO much, so just keep digging. Even the good copies are worth $, but you would be honest I am sure. My friend tried to sell some Tiffany sterling earrings - found out they were NOT real but after reposting she still sold for decent amount because they were very nice quality.
