I have an antique rocker that I am helping sell for a friend. I suspect it may be from Sheboygan but not sure. Checked everything online but no luck. There are two metal support rods from the armrest connected under the seat on the chair. I have not seen them on many old rockers so I believe it may help identify the maker. Can you help?
That metal rod and bracket looks like something "added on" during a repair.
Since the spindles look like they have been re-glued to the arm rest, I suspect the rods were added to keep the arms, spindles and seat tight with each other and prevent them from loosening and coming apart.
The metal rods are not new. I have seen old catalog pictures where the rocker arms have rods.
Watchsearcher is right with everything he said. They are also used under the leg stretchers to pull the legs in. This is one of the better installations I have seen. Someone took the time to make a key-way in the arm rather than through drilling and plugging the arm
