Anyone else thinks this looks a bit Scottish arts and crafts ? It was bought from Scotland . It reminds me of the stick pins designed by Edgar Simpson . The feeling is that the drop is a marriage but I'm not sure it is . The drop looks right for arts and crafts . Any thoughts -thanks

I am pretty sure that drop is not original as I have seen crude made earrings with same reddish stone identical to that dropper which are made in India

I think this is what I would call a night school project. It's has an amateur naïvety about it. I don't think the drop is original but it works a bit. Maybe I'd ask my jeweller to replace the red stone with a matching piece of mother of pearl and turn it around so the silver setting was at the back. Irrespective, looks like the drop should be hung the other way around.

Thank-you for the comment . I agree the bezel setting to the MOP is badly done and the shield also badly shaped and cut . It was just the red stone that made me think ,as I'd seen this designer use square cut red stones in some of his penciled design work (found online) . It was not a stone I've seen much , if ever, in A&C jewellery. I'll think on ,what to do with it . The MOP is lovely -great colour .Thanks again I appreciate your help .

Ahhh, it's interesting that you thought the square decoration was Scottish-like because I thought it was the simple design that led you to think Scottish. Margaret Wilson made some very simple designs featuring large pieces of MOP & abalone shell. Her pieces were often more on the naive or rustic side as well. But they also tend to have nice flowing line which elevates the design from basic to restrained. Mary Thew could also bash out a rustic jewel but there was nothing restrained about her designs.
