The latest addition to my "small book" collection is the 10 Volume Set of Four Minute Essays by Dr. Frank Crane.
These are 1st edition books printed in 1919 by Wm. H. Wise & Co., Inc. New York & Chicago.
    Each volume measures 5-1/2" x 3-7/8".
Volume 1 through 9 have 160 pages each & Volume 10 has 159 pages with the last 17 pages being an Index for all volumes.

Dr. Frank Crane (1861–1928) was a Presbyterian minister, speaker, and columnist who wrote a set of ten volumes of "Four Minute Essays" which were published in 1919.

Some quotations by Dr. Frank Crane:

“Responsibility is the thing people dread the most of all. Yet it is the one thing in the world that develops us, gives us manhood or womanhood fiber.”
    Dr. Frank Crane

“A friend is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.”
    Dr. Frank Crane

“You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if you do not trust enough.”
    Dr. Frank Crane

“Habits are safer than rules; you don't have to watch them. And you don't have to keep them either. They keep you.”
    Dr. Frank Crane

Dr. Crane was a great writer of 'Proverbs', as I like to call them.
When I was in college under a Music Major, I took two electives, U.S. History and World Religions. I took the Religion elective out of interest..More wars and disagreements have begun over religious matters and beliefs, which intrigued me.
Presbyterian roots go back to the 1500s in Scotland. Came to the U.S. in colonial days. Pittsburgh, Pa. by the way has the most concentration of adherents.
John Knox, a Catholic priest, actually is considered the founder.
Nice Post..as soon as I read Dr. Crane, I Allready knew! A great weekend to you Dave!!

Thomas, from what I have read, although Dr. Crane spent 25 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed the preaching part, but did not like all the politics in the church organization.
From what I understand, it is not common to find his complete 10 volume set together. I guess I was lucky, as an estate sale down the road from me, had this set for $10.00, so I could not pass it up.

would make since that these were offered by the binding company.
