We got this vase today, and only because the first buyer flaked out. Go figure..... It was dirt cheap, and why someone would not follow through on the purchase is beyond me..... But we are not complaining.

The vase stands at 16 inches in height, and has a crossed L mark used by Sevres. The mark was forged a lot though, so not 100% sure if it is authentic or not. I am still researching that. We did not buy it for that reason though, so it would simply be a bonus if it turns out it is. The Ormolu mounts appear to possibly be bronze.

Please see comment 1 for a link to an article in Wikipedia about the company that I believe actually produced this vase. I have confirmed that it was not made by Sevres.

The portrait on the vase is absolutely stunning, done by hand, and signed Lhéri. Based on the style and the metalwork, I would date it to the 1890-1910 period.

Not what we normally buy, but we are remodeling a room off of the living room in our 1912 home, to be a studio/office for Peggy, and this was just too good to pass up. She loves Art Nouveau, and the Mucha-esque portrait will be perfect with her period prints by Mucha and the Glasglow Spook School.

Peggy is over the moon with this buy.... and I am a firm believer in the saying..... "Happy Wife..... Happy Life!!".

I found a French auction with information on a vase which appears to be the same maker. The mark was quite similar, as was the underside of the mount, along with the general aesthetic of the piece that was sold. They described it as by Samson, and an imitation of the works of Sevres. Apparently they copied a lot of companies. Here is a link to a short Wikipedia on the company and it's history.

Other examples signed by the artist are A. Lheri. I’m still not sure if CW accommodates a French acute or aigu. But there should be an acute over that ‘e’ in Lheri.
The image is that of Sarah Bernhardt, I think.

I have changed out the last image to add a closeup of the mark, and also a closeup of the signature on the portrait.

The portrait is so exquisitely painted! I love it, and can see why Peggy is in love with it. What a terrific find, Craig!
