Well....bought on a well known auction site with only one other bidder in the game. It's just fantastic when a piece you recognise shows up with a foreign description and excludes the key word 'Loetz'! I have admired this particluar décor for many years and actually never expected to get my hands on one. I read somewhere that this décor was something of a commercial failure at the time it was produced 1904/6. As a twentieth century re-imagining of ancient greek glass at a time when europeans could not get enough of all things ancient and antiquarian, it is something of a surprise; but being such an unusual departure from their production style at the time it is possible that distributors may have had a hard time moving these pieces, who knows. I'd love to know more. However they are rare and therefore pretty hard to find, without paying through the nose, which is something I generally avoid.

There's a lot of glass in this piece. Olympia ground with patterned faux patina enamel fired onto the glass and finished with patchy 'cold' painted surface gold/bronze enamel. 4'5" tall by 8" (max body), 10" ( max to handles).
