this old MP metal insignia has a lot of patina and appears to have lost the top portion of the emblem, any help identifying this item would be appreciated, thanks!

Looks like a bumper mount that would be used in an escort like a funeral etc.
So it's not a piece of really modern pottery? That's what it looks like from the thumbnail.
This is made of metal, I would say magnesium.
My guess, is brass. Magnesium doesn't oxidize like this
