I am looking for information about this extinguisher. Date of manufacture... anything. Have contacted numerous museum's to no avail. Please help.

Bobby725 is right Fire Grenade!!!! Old Man Crawford had one mounted in a ring style holder on the wall by the fireplace down the Cape back in the fifties!!

This one appears unique though, in that it apparently contains some sort of dry chemical powder?? Most similar old extinguishers contained a semi-hazardous liquid (carbon tetrachloride?) instead. That, along with the detail on the box that its holder bracket is made of plastic, would make me wanna guess it might be somewhat newer than many of the others that might still be found anywhere. An INTERESTING example, indeed!! :-)
The first dry powder units like this came out in 1928. Carbon tetrachloride was outlawed for this use in the 50's because of the fumes. This one may well have a mix containing sodium bicarbonate or even graphite. The plastic ones were a hot item in the late 50's and early 60's being sold to home owners. I remember seeing them in school and public buildings hanging on the walls. I also remember being told I would get an ass whipping if I ever touched one. No, I never did touch one.
