Today I found this lovely old painting of a black lady with full red lips. I thought she was beautiful. There is an interesting redish mark on her left forehead.
However, after looking at her for a while, I'm wondering, is this person a female ( red lips, tied up hair, bow at neckline)... or male ( mustache, heavy face whiskers)....? Hmmm....
Approx, 20"L x 16"W
Based on the canvas, nails and style, I'm guessing its mid 1800s - Victorian era.
It appears to be signed by artist but it is illegible.
I'd love your opinion and feedback.
