Hi trying to find out a bit about these 2 vases. They belonged to my late grandmother who passed away 1980. There are no markings on them at all.. They are orange on the inside.They are rugby ball shape and stand approximately 7 1/4 inches high. Rim diameter 2 1/4 inches wide, diameter roughly 13 1/4 inches.. Hope someone can help.. These are Czech. This decor is generally attributed to Kralik ca 1925.
Hi welzbub I thought they may have been Kralik but wasn't certain. I also had a thought they may have been a wedding present to my late grandmother which would fit with the 1925 circa as she was marries in or around 1928... The only thing I couldn't see any markings on them anywhere... I know some glass makers never used markings but can't find anythink about Kralik markings. Markings by most of these companies in this time frame were simply provenance marks required by law to import into certain countries. The US required the marks to be on items. The UK only required the mark to be on the shipping container. Much of this period and region's glass is unmarked. Where the glass is found can be a big factor in having markings or not. Very little of this type glass had an actual makers name on it.

Also they might be Welz because if a shape I saw (with double spiral handles) or Harrach with a similar decor and enamel

I also questioned whether they might be Welz. (Wasn't brave enough to say it though because Welzebub didn't...... ) Just adding to your confusion :)
There is absolutely nothing I am aware of in the way of supporting evidence that would even remotely indicate that these are Welz. That would be why I did not mention it.
Personally, I am also not aware of anything that would point to Harrach as a possible maker.
Ok I am now really confused lol.. Kralik1928 why do you think they may be either Welz or Harrach? as you have really confused me know..

I completely agree these 'giraffe' style pieces are normally attributed to Kralik, and seen in many colours. That appears the most likely glass house. However, personally, I haven't yet excluded Welz from executing a similar style decor. That is what I was saying. I am not saying these are Welz - I just haven't ruled them out as a possibility. To say there is nothing "remotely" similar in Welz production surprises me, but I am certainly no expert. I have commented before that I don't find these type of pieces to be a huge leap from the Welz orange/green mica 'giraffe' style pieces (in a known Welz shape). There is no link that I know of yet, definitely nothing supportable, but - as I said - I have niggle of doubt about all of these being Kralik. In time, I may rule out Welz executing a similar decor, but I haven't yet....

That is not the same as claiming that Welz did not make a decor that may be similar. (I am just not aware of one at the moment). I was only referring to these specific pieces, or this decor on other shapes. :-)

I KNOW the Welz pieces are very different, and I've only seen them with an applied rim (and also the provenance mark often evident on Welz production), but..... they do share some giraffe-like characteristics, at least for my eyes. Just another example of all that cross-fertilisation between glass houses.
