The T.EATON Co. Limited, Winnipeg Grill Room, Victorian Scottish Oak Carved Hall Table circa. 1880
This actual hall table was in the front foyer of the Winnipeg Eaton's Grill Room from 1905-1999. Each day staff placed new flowers in a vase and centred on the table "directly under the ceiling chandelier". Who can't forget the fireplace directly behind the hall table! The flowers would represent either the time of season and/or a special event.
Many visitors and famous people came to the Grill Room on the fifth floor gathered around this particular table. Here is one story... In talking with Mr. Phill Horch, the coordinator and chair of Eaton's Space Odyssey Campaign. "Last Man to Walk On The Moon" Eugene Cernan met with the media at this very table in 1978.
Another interesting fact; there is one similar table located in a castle located in the United Kingdom. In the 1970's, I recall looking at the detail of the carving of the hall table located in the Grill Room; how actually beautiful it looked. I did not think at the time my son Brant would be adding this item (never mind finding it) to showcase with the TOWNSEND Collection or that matter for the EATON Recollections Museum he is developing.
