I`ve had this rubber checkerboard kicking around my shop for a few years so I finally decided to do something with it. The rubber checkerboard is not in great condition, but it has the look! It advertises "THE B. F. GOODRICH RUBBER CO. RUBBER GOODS FOR MUNICIPALITIES". The base is a rusty old Domestic sewing machine base that I just cleaned off and then clear coated it, the wood is an old mahogany table top that I found, so I decided to put them all together and came up with this. Thanks for lookin! Rob

Thomas.
Thanks AnythingObscure for the love it and nice compliment!!
Thanks Thomas! You are a King! (at least for today)! ;-)
Do you happen to know any of the history of the board itself, Bobby? Rubber seems like a kind of strange material to have made such a board from for 'household' usage, which makes me wonder (along with that "rubber goods for municipalities' logo on it) if it might have been intended to be installed semi-permanently somewhere in a "public" (maybe outdoor) location, like a civic park or plaza or somesuch??
Anythingobscure interesting because I was thinking along the same lines. Except I was thinking perhaps used on a train etc. where the rubber would absorb the vibration and not disrupt the game.
I don`t have any history of the board and not sure where I picked it up (old age setting in). I did try a google search but came up empty. maybe an old promotional item? Thanks again!

Both Chess and Checkers may be played here, a 64 squared board for either.
Interesting to me is that in Chess, the most famous opening move is called 'The Gioco Piano', your first move being moving the pawn in front of the Queen up 2 spaces.
Thomas.
Thanks again Thomas! yeah, chess or checkers, if you look at the search that I found, there are B. F. Goodrich checkers that originally came with this. (never had the patience for chess)!

I found a patent for a rubber checker board dated 1974 but it didn't give much else info except to a woman named Elisabeth something.
Thanks buckethead for the appreciation!
Thanks fhrjr2 for the love it and the research! I`m guessing that this was a promotional item.
