    trunkman
    (148 items)

As a follow up to a previous post of this trunk many years ago I finally got around to refinishing it. These carpet covered trunks are very rare... I’ve only seen a handful, most posted on this site. This one not only has the wonderful carpet but also great hardware. A bit of trunk eye candy!

Very nice Tman, I love everything about it, especially how the wood slats run on the edge of the trunk, very cool, greendog.

Thanks so much greendog! I never noticed the feature of the slats right up against the ends on the top! Surveying my trunks and others I see this is an exception in design. Yh this one has a lot going for it... too bad it’s not the original lock.. another example of locks broken and replaced with inferior replacements.

You need to look for a nice lock and replace it.

Great job, Trunkman. I've never seen a trunk that was covered in carpet. BTW, I found a man in NYC who sells new old stock locks. Ordered one from him last year to put on a turn-of-the-century steamer that I redid. We were pleased with the lock, and felt his prices were reasonable. Hope this helps.

Hello All. I was lucky enough to inherit one of these carpeted treasures from my great grandmother. It's a massive (38" wide x 23" deep x 27.5"-32 high) Romadka that, aside from some unfortunate mustard yellow paint on the top slats and tin, has retained most of its original features (including the leather hasp cover and front strap). The fabric is surprisingly like Jim's non-Romadka which I suspect he purchased and restored to help process the grief after my refusal to sell some years back. ;)

I'm here to see whether someone would be willing to talk with me about cleaning up the fabric and doing some light restoration on my regal old behemoth. I live in Michigan, 90 minutes north of Detroit, and am open to either hiring the work out or doing it myself. The idea of shipping the trunk is daunting and likely cost prohibitive. I could however borrow a truck and maybe drive it to say Jackson, MI. (hint-hint)

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you have to offer.
