Apparently this is a fairly rare NCR Brass register. It is a model 310 "Candy Store/BarberShop" register, with 15 price buttons, the highest being only 50¢. It has a solid brass body and top, and is apparently much less common than the model 313 which looks identical but normally had a white marble piece under the keys. If anyone knows more about the 310 models, I'd love additional information on it.

A beautiful old machine! Will you post a picture of the keys and the other sides?
Does it have the crank on the side?
Does the lock above the keys lock the cash drawer?
I can answer at least one of those questions WS -- the lock above the keys (which should take a flat, double-cut steel key) allows the curved brass 'lid' it is attached to to open and hinge upward, revealing various 'tally counters' and 'owner-type' things, which a simple store clerk (even then) wouldn't normally have access to.
I'd also be curious to see a pic of the underside of its cash drawer -- there *should* be a large paper label affixed which would give exact details of the machine's exact age and original owner. National was pretty good about that, then... ;-) :-)
I've added some additional photos of the register and it's beginnings. If it's hard to make out, the label indicates it's a "second hand register" thus the S206082P serial number. Sold to Canadian National Carbon Co. in Toronto Ontario. Model 310 with finish code "A". There is no sales date on the label, but the last patent date is March 2, 1920.
THANKS for the xtra pics Cancollect! I figured there would be some further info hiding under its drawer, how *unique* that turned out to be, just like its 'not marble' shelf ! :-) I have a similarly styled (but larger) register myself, currently stored in somewhat disassembled condition (so's I can move it at all, that is...**heavy!!**) awaiting restoration. IIRC mine is dated 1912...??
AnythingObscure: Thanks for the feedback, I have always been a lover of these old brass machines, and now happy to have found one, a small one, that I can manage! Yes they were made to last and damn heavy! There's an NCR in my neck of the woods for sale right now, a monster with drawers side by side. I'd love it, but probably take two men just to lift it., so I'm sticking with my small one and being happy!

I have a full size for sale in a consignment store and I hope someone buys it so I don’t have to bring it home.
When I removed mine from my parents’ home, I paid a young man $50 to carry it down 2 flights of stairs to my car. He earned every cent of it!
