This is my Edison diamond disc phonograph. It plays the thick Edison records. It looks a little rough but it plays great. The record on the turntable is "You tell her, I stutter". Kinda cool! Thanks for lookin! Rob

Thanks Watchsearcher for stopping by! It`s a cool song about a guy that stutters asking his friend to talk to a girl for him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2ybiC5MxUQ ---- This is the same record on a diamond disc just like mine.

Nice looking for the age. I haven't seen those old thick records for more years than I care to admit. The records that came with mine were all Al Jolson and Stephen Foster. Thanks for posting this, brought back fun memories of a fun time in life.

      Thanks for posting.
My granny owned a record player in a huge cabinet but I was too young to pay attention to the brand. I do recall the thick records which were quite brittle and easily broken, so the adults said when they broke one.

The record that I remember was called “Pistol Packing Mama”.

Sadly, my grandmother failed to appreciate the music aspect but liked the cabinet. She removed all the mechanical works so she could store her glassware inside the cabinet.
Even as a child, I thought that was a mistake!
All the fun of winding the crank and getting to hear music gone so breakables could be stored. >:-(

This is what I'm talking about!! Diamond disc players played with a fixed stylus/arm..moving up and down in vertical.
I have a Diamond 78 RPM posted somewhere, issued by the Thomas Edison Record Company. This is Awesome Rob!!
The record I've shown is a 1913 thick shellac.

Thanks fhrjr2 for checking this out! I`ve got a couple of boxes of these records, they will play on my Victrola but they are way better on the Diamond Disc, and 78`s won`t play on the Diamond Disc. Thanks again!

Thanks Thomas! I got a good deal on this one, when my son and I went to pick it up I asked if it had a key. She said she has never seen a key for it, when we got it home, I took off the speaker cover, looked in the back and found the original key. Happy, Happy, Happy!

I did not know there was a difference between the 'thick' and 'thin' 78RPM records. (or their playing machines, for that matter?)

Ain't it FUN to learn random new tidbits of info about "stuff" around here at CW...??

      <smile><applause><thumbsup>

(and congrats on finding its key too for that matter, Rob?!!) :-) :-) :-)

AnythingObscure, I think recording styles are different and the Edison records might have a slightly different speed. Someone with a little more knowledge, like Brunswick (or anyone other than me) might have some better input about it! Thanks again! Rob
