This piece is heavy for its size. Thinking it is made of cast iron. Inside is threaded I was thinking maybe cap for fence posts??

Looks like an old 1928 - 1929 Pontiac Radiator Cap
A radiator cap wouldn't be cast iron normally and it would certainly have a blow off vent hole which this doesn't have. It does look 20's Pontiac but not a radiator cap.
Just said it looked like one...never said it was one....

Maybe a hood ornament?
Clpitts yes it probably was a hood ornament. I am old and memory isn't my best asset but I think this was called a 1920's Pontiac Mascot.
