So OK, I'm cheating a bit here. I just read that João Gilberto died. Along with his then-wife Astrud, João collaborated with saxophonist Stan Getz back in the 1960s, and the result was musical magic. Descanse em paz, João.

Oh, and yes, my photography IS craptastic. };-)

I'm not convinced this is quite the same recording as on Jazz Masters 53, but it is a long version with João singing first, and then Astrud. And of course Stan on sax:

So Danco Samba, sung by João:

And the melodically tricky Voce e Eu sung by Astrud:

Thanks so much for this post keramikos. Many today are not familiar with Joao Gilberto but I am a big bossa nova fan, besides his Getz recordings I have some of his solo singing CDs because I loved his gentle voice. The Girl from Ipanema song with Joao, his wife Astrud & Getz was pure magic

      Newfld, You're more than welcome.

Yes, it's sad that João is gone, but thankfully his music lives on.

      Boy, do I feel ignorant.
Whenever I hear the term, "Bosa Nova"... I hear Elvis signing it!

      Lol, thanks again keremikos,
I enjoyed that being an Elvis fan since 2nd. grade...yes, 2nd. grade! Ha!
Elvis fever also was contracted by my Daughter. I believe she has nearly every
song he sang....then she moved on to the Beatles.
      Then Dave Mason...blah!
      And call me Eileen....

      Ugh..not Dave Mason...
I meant Dave Mathews..see I can't even get his name straight, that's how much I care.
And WHEN IS CW GOING TO LET US EDIT OUR COMMENTS!!!!

      Ms.CrystalShip, You're welcome, Eileen.

Please don't take it personally if I refer to you by your CW handle. I myself prefer to stay behind my CW handle (a bad Internet experience that started back in the early aughties), so I tend not to use other CW users' real life names as a kind of 'reciprocal' courtesy.

Hey, if CW allowed us to edit our comments, then I might not have gotten a Dave Mason earworm:

Keira, Do you recall a conversation we had about a vinyl record site starting up??
Well, I did. It's called 'Record Grooves', on Facebook.
      I just started it yesterday.

      Thomas.

Brunswick, Howdy. If it seems like I've been quiet lately, it's because I've been a bit busy in real life.

So you have a vinyl record site now, huh? Cool.

Unfortunately, there is more than one Facebook outfit with the strings "Record," and "Grooves" in the name, and none of them seemed to be yours insofar as I could tell.

Maybe I couldn't find it because I'm not a Facebook user?
