I acquired this piece from an African art gallery in Saugatuck, MI while vacationing with a friend. It was made by Thomas Makore, a young stone sculptor in Zimbabwe, and I paid $78 for it. It is 5 1/2 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches wide. I simply love the simplicity of such art and its clean design, and I proudly display it on my bookcase. It is abstract in design, reminding me of similar works from the prehistoric, Polynesian, and Native American time periods and cultures. Through such works, we see how similar we are in our outlook on life. I think Joesph Campbell has much to say on this matter, especially with universal archetypes.

For anyone who thinks African art does not sit equally with other great art from other parts of the world has obviously never taken the time to study the rich cultural and artistic heritage that the African continent has produced for many thousands of years.
