Here is a 3 3-4"H x 5 1-2"W tonal green malachite lion in repose, from the Czech Moser glass co, who made malachite animals ca the 1930s. Photographed near the Italianate fountain at the entrance to my new residence

I think the background really adds to the greatness of this lion, especially the fountain, which brings to mind something like the Lion of Lucerne statue or similar pieces in Italy.
He's very royal and really I think which is how a lion should really be viewed! :)

I really love malachite glass and the leo is majestic in green.

Glad you liked my regal lion Ken, I have to agree that intense green is a great color, it photographed so nicely in the outdoor summer sun, but had to ditch a few pix as they were too reflective - done on a 90+ degree day lol! The compliments are always appreciated

Lauren I am super happy that you really enjoyed this lion, I had you in mind when buying it as I wanted to put a special lion up for your Leo BD (which I know is not till Aug because of your peridot birthstone, but once the calendar goes "into" the next sign I try to do a timely astrology post last I forget later), and glad you thought the fountain enhanced him as did I! Eileen thanks a bunch for the wonderful compliments, it is rare to find a Moser malachite lion, although I have seen other rough cut malachite lions online. I hoped you would enjoy seeing our main entrance waterfall as it is pretty spectacular when all the water jets are on, they were conserving water that day - the owner of the complex is a well traveled district attorney of Italian background so I'm pretty sure he had Rome's Trevi fountain in mind for this one, I keep being reminded of Anita Ekberg & Marcello Mastroianni kissing under it in La Dolce Vita lol
Thanks ho2 for the really nice compliments, I actually had a pic of the base but deleted it in favor of the fountain, sigh. Now I have re-packed the lion away in protective bubble wrap as don't have a new display case yet (we are still moving in), but once I locate it will post a bottom base pic, for now will describe it to you - looks alot like the top base esp as seen in pic three, with a lighter green swirling inside the dark, sort of like adding green food coloring to cake mix batter. No signature but authenticated as Moser by a German antiques dealer, these malachite animals were numbered (I think my lion is #6) and all have an oval base, there was recently a squirrel online to buy with the exact same coloring and oval base, ggl image Moser squirrel and there may be a shot of the base

Thanks so much Karen for the lovely words, I am super happy you enjoyed both the lion and fountain, had to be both creative and lucky to take that last photo - used a steel folding table weighted down on bottom w. heavy books as there are cobblestones surrounding that massive fountain & was praying my beloved green lion would not fall & have a "burial at sea" lol, but things worked out. So glad you enjoyed my king of the jungle he's a special one, but I hope to bowl you over in next wk's glass post which is the high point of my collection :)
