Am updating this item with new information. As Kerry suspected, and I feared, this is a fake, the case and movement are indeed English and Ingersoll, however, the face is a copy, as is the seconds wheel. A close look at the word “Foreign” beneath the number 6 is poorly reproduced. The pin push to set movement is much older than the stem wind and would not have been used for production. The seconds dial on the production model is inserted into the movement whereas this one has had a hole punched out to accommodate. The printing of the face isn’t crisp as should be and was cut out using scissors as opposed to being punched out. Anyway, this mystery has been solved and the mention in the Heide/Gilman book remains a mystery. I have included a photo of the dial outside of the case which clearly shows the poor quality of the reprint, particularly the word “Foreign” at the bottom, also note the purple shoes.

    Unsolved Mystery

Help us close this case. Add your knowledge below.

Thank you vinyl33rpm and MickeysMagic for taking a moment to stop by. It
was found in an abandoned German Cinema the seller, an old friend tells me.
I know of only one other example.

Hi vonsboy, congratulations on locating an extremely rare large size 34 English Mickey WW and thank you very much for sharing (1st time I have seen one)!

      I have a couple of queries :-
      1. Has the dial got 'FOREIGN' written below the 6 O'clock position? (Can't see from your photo).
      2. Could you include a picture of the movement. It should have signed ' Ingersoll ' & 'Foreign' on the movement plate.

I have noticed the dial of your watch is slightly different from the 30 mm version. The smaller watch has 15/30/45 printed around the sub-dial rotating disc.

      Lovely lovely watch! Congrats!

Hmmmm... First off congrats. I have seen reference to the other, but not sure as to if a production or fantasy piece.
I wonder if paper or cellulose dial....and as George mentioned the lack of numerical indexes on sub register.
I hope it can be "real" piece...but gut feeling say nay.
Again fingers crossed for your newest find.

Thanks Geo26 for your thoughts, it does have Foreign below the six o’clock
spot as it should, am sending it to a watchsmith I use , who has worked on
the English pieces for me in the past to have it serviced, he will hopefully
be able to tell me more. I acquired the piece from our friend Maurice who
has had it for years. Hope you are well, great to hear from you again

Kerry, please have a look at my reply to Geo26. Had to consider it a possible
fantasy piece but am not convinced as there is another one with the original
box. The story is this was found in an abandoned German cinema and offered
to our friend after seeing a picture of my small #1 wristwatch on his website

Hi vonsboy, your observation regarding the Black Label box being exclusively for the wristwatch only and not for the corresponding pocket watch is indeed very interesting. Hopefully a collector somewhere can proof otherwise!

Thank you for the update. I am wondering if wandlessfairys‘ watch is also a fantasy piece!
