This is very symbolic for me. Many years ago, i had an encounter with a bear while hiking with my dog - up on Zuni Mountain in New Mexico. And i've been looking for an interesting Zuni fetish and this one sure is interesting! A hunchback bear - made from carved stone with inlaid eyes - i think MOP, but not certain. It's signed 'ZUNI' on one foot and something like 'B. Mattu' on the other. I'm pretty awful at deciphering signatures though...

Great bear, love those all seeing eyes! Signature on one foot looks like B Mattic or Mattia, very talented sculptor

I figured out the signature. it belongs to Bernadette Lateyice Hattie, Zuni Pueblo.
    3. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 4 months ago
correction, it's her son Brion Hattie.

Really nice little figurine- I especially love the eyes, I can imagine him looming out of the darkness of a cave on a mountain ledge in the dawning spring
