Hello Costume Jewelry Collectors, I found this little Art signed rhinestone brooch at the thrift this morning. I and 1/2" wide. I think I have under-appreciated Art. Thanks for stopping by and hopefully loving this, too.

ART brooches are so worthy of appreciation. This one is no exception. Can't beat this quality - the workmanship, attention to detail, the little gold curls and tiny gold 'blobs' (can't think of proper words right now) all add to the beauty of this brooch. Great find plein-air-painter!

Gillian is right. "ART" jewelry is so well made. If you look closely, this piece is full of detail. I believe the makers really took pride in their work as this wonderful "Sweet Petite" shows. I especially love the faceted topaz stone and the tiny jadeite " pearls".

I know everyone is tired of my whining about the thrifts in my area, so
yesterday I went to SLO town and hit 7 thrift stores, ( not Goodwill, that place is hopeless) and I found nothing, nada, zip, zero, zilch, diddly, zippo! Last thrift had a pair of "Lunch at the Ritz" earrings. ( I don't like this jewelry, I think it looks to be made for children) and they wanted, get this-$85 for them. They were old, faded, and the few rs's were dark or dead!
So, love your thrifts, for some of us, if we find something we love, pay full price!
      C' EST LA VIE!!

Hi Eileen, The only problem with Art is the lower cost method of handling the pin. Other than that they are great.

And about the thrifts. Yes they are usually barren of anything. Goodwill puts everything online. The Salvation Army used to sell the jewelry once a year at a crazy free for all. They still do that but now are starting to put things out at the store. Still very few items. The Society of St, Vincent De Paul has nothing usually. There is one thrift that does get things. They are a local charity. They cull the best for an annual couturier sale with high prices. However, they do sometimes get great items. It has all moved online, really. Prices at the local charity shop are not inexpensive, but they have a senior day (25% off). Still prices have risen. They have caught onto us and the ebay sellers.

Yes, so right Maureen, and at all thrifts, the cullers/ sorters get first dibs. I was reading an article about this girl and her blog for VCJ and she actually bragged that she got "first dibs" on all the jewelry that came in, and that she volunteers at her Church's annual rummage sale for the same reason. Can't blame her really, wouldn't we do the same?
My only hope, is my son-in-laws Mother works at a SLO Hospice thrift, and she sends me pictures when a piece comes in she thinks I might like. No luck so far. ( there was a pretty rhinestone necklace in there yesterday, pretty but "prom-wear" none the less) and they wanted $225 for it!!!! Huh? What am I missing? It was on a black velvet neckline hanger locked behind glass.
      LOL!

Eileen,So nice to have a contact like that.Good luck, I hope she spots something great for you. $225 for a rhinestone necklace ( prom wear, no less), who is doing their pricing? That's outrageous!
