I just recently purchased this beautiful pewter set and am trying to decide if it is worth getting it refinished to look like new. Between the cost to refinish and my purchase cost, I would be out about $690. There is one online for sale and they are asking $1275. It is much shinier, which I don't understand, because I believe originally it was more of a matte finish pewter. I don't know if they had it silverplated, or if Hugo Leven made this set in something other than pewter.

If anyone has any opinion on what I should do, I'd love to hear from you. And if you have any insight into this 'fuschia' pattern and whether it came in more than one finish, I would appreciate hearing from you,

Appears to be the natural colour of old pewter & pewter, tarnishes fast. Not really made to stay shiny unless plated. Can you successfully plate pewter ?
