Memories!!! Back in 75 the wife and I took our new to us 74
Dodge Ramcharger up to N.H. She said Y don't we say somewhere tonight in a Motel
Busy season!!! After 3 stops at No Vacancy!!! We saw this Hell's Motel!!!
I said you go in!!! She runs out and says do we have a Fire Extinguisur in the car!!! I said we need one to check in??? No!!! The Motel is on fire!!! Lint smoIdering in the floor heater!!! I took it underneath the room and put the fire out!!! 20 minutes before the Vol fire department got there!!! They gave us a room for 1/2 price!!! That's our Motel from Hell!! I bet theres a lot of stories like that out there!!!

yougottahavestuff let me tell you something my friend, I lived in N.H. for years and I can tell you first hand, those volunteer fire departments may be slow but they have never lost a foundation yet.
Good one!! My wifes from Orrington Maine. What's the difference from a Mainer and a Mainiac!!! One spends one winter in Maine the Mainiac spends another one!!!

My memories are with ye olde rotary phone as worked in many an office with them, and love your red pooch
stuff the late wife and I used to drive up to Oxford Plain Speedway in Maine every weekend for the races. We stayed at a camp in Paris Maine.
Newfld we didn't have dials growing up. You just picked up the phone and told the operator who you wanted to talk to. It was around $1.15 a month for phone service but you needed a $15 deposit to get hooked up. Phone and electric wires were only on main roads so it you were on a side road, farm etc. you had neither. To this day I seldom use a phone. I have one but only make one or two calls a month. I think spending many years in other countries without a phone was enjoyable. Now days people can't drive, eat or sleep without their phone in hand.

I noticed something on your very cool telephone close-up.
At the bottom of the dial, it says
"Answer __ Ring(s)
Pty Code".
I have never seen that instruction actually printed on a phone before.
I remember as a kid visiting my Aunt and Uncle out in the country and wondering why they always let the phone ring without answering, and why there was no actual dial on the phone.
They told me it was a "Party Line"
(I had never heard of that before) and that their "code" was 2 rings.
If they needed to make a call,
they simply picked up the receiver and asked Mabel to dial the number for them.
fhrjr2 Speedway is still there. Plus Oxford has a Casino now owed by Churchill Downs. 8 of us go to play golf at Poland Springs Resort First weekend in June every year. My wife says they had a party line in Orrington 3 rings. The Davenport desk I put up on CW was their telephone table. GREAT POSTS vynil!!!
