Today I went to a thrift store near one of my accounts and was surprised by this $5.00 bakelite clamper bracelet. I rarely shop there, pretty sad and dirty place - usually no jewelry. I just got lucky :-) I didn't tell them so this store is now on my list of "once a month or so visits". (Also found a great carved lucite bangle and some lapis earrings - will post later.) This butterscotch clamper passed simichrome test later, but I knew it was bakelite based on weight and hinge so I quietly paid It is 1-1/8" widest tapering to .75". Very nice thick bracelet from the 1930's and originally was white. Showing it with a bird hair barrette, earrings and a clothespin pendant thing-a-ma-jig. Nice to get a deal!

PS - a word of caution about clampers. They are usually for a small wrist. If you buy online be sure to confirm the opening.

Thank you Ken - my hands are so old and wrinkly...thank goodness they still work and no arthritis. Ha ha ha - It was one of those rare days....I hardly ever stop in thrift stores anymore here because they are so disappointing. But, the thrift gods were smiling on me today :-)

I’m so jealous but very happy for your beautiful found treasures and I love those kinds of adventures ????

Thank you dear ofwhatiam!! Far away in NY and like me hunting for treasures! I think you are also a road trip fan. I think my best road trip find was getting gas on rt66 in Arizona. I went in to pay and saw a tub of real - not stabilized or dyed - turquoise cabs behind the cashier. My boyfriend wondered what the H...and of course I was buying as much as I could at .25 each. Yes it was 30 years ago, but "right place, right time" - thank you thrift gods! It's also about the people you meet a long the way :-) No jealousy, there's enough for all of us.

Fabulous clamper bracelet Mary & you really know your bakelite, it is such a perfect match to your other pieces - BTW I am SO jealous of the parrot earrings, love those!

Jenni - the parrot is actually a hair barrette. Isn't it wonderful? I was so excited when I found this bracelet yesterday. I stuffed it in my purse and thought about it all day at work, then unwrapped and cleaned and had to share right away :-)

Thanks friends for the love of plastic fantastic: Watchsearcher, Hel1, Fort, aura, Lisa, Roycroft

      What a beautiful bracelet..

For some reason it reminds me of the jewelry Twiggy ( remember her) wore on Carnegie Street in London in the 60’s. BIG BOLD BEAUTIFUL!
      I love it Mary...great find!
I ran around yesterday to a town north of me thrifting...once again...zip, nada
      Maybe yard sales? Ha!

Hi Eileen - yes, it has the Twiggy Vibe - Groovy! I was pretty shocked because I rarely find any good jewelry at thrift stores here. MOD would be another description from the time. I used to get up early for garage sales and swap meets, not anymore unless I'm traveling and need something to do :-)
