It's easy and cheap to fly to Iceland - so I tell everyone - go! Then rent a car and drive around the country. Yes, food and lodging is not as cheap, but if you plan ahead like I did in 2015, you can have a wonderful road trip experience. This boneyard was in an eastern coast town of Djupivogor (sorry, I am sure this isn't the correct spelling.) The town was sleepy but also a port for cruise ships. I was driving a tiny red Chevy., not on a ship. I loved this bone-filled attraction. Pictures 1 and 2 of whales, 3 is mainly seagull (yes, I brought some seagull bones back home in my lugguage - eew!!!) and last - Thor's cabin. It was pretty amazing wandering around and taking pictures in this town and here. And in the words of the famous nike god - Just Do It!

What was Thor like, my #1 Mary? Wouldn't he let you take his photograph! :^D
The Bones are really clean, is that just from the Sun and Wind, or did they clean them? Thanks for posting, I'm not going! xoxo :^)

I didn't actually meet Thor, darn it. But, it was a really large boneyard and they let us wander around. The bones are bleached by the sun and snow. Some of them are in buildings so they won't get stolen. I think most were cleaned, but I don't know for sure not having any experience cleaning bones. The seagull I brought back was found on a hike and it was very clean. Geez, is this TMI? I was hiking, I saw bones, I picked them up and brought them home in my luggage. Completely clean, Bill, completely . LOL

Fabulous pictures and looks like you had a terrific trip to Iceland - Scandinavia has always been a place I long to visit, it looks so clean and can imagine the fresh air. Wow those beautiful white bones are amazing, must have been a swell place & your pix are great :)

Great pics and great story of your trip Mary. My youngest sister and her family went to Iceland this past spring and really enjoyed hiking thru Iceland. It's on my bucket list to go there.

That's interesting my #1 Mary, and not TMI, I need more! :^D On the Orca? it looks like they keep it restored, and the Teeth look like they're glued in, and understandable! Here they would have to encase them in an acrylic display case, but then someone would just bring in a truck, and take it all away, sad but about the way it is! Thanks for just enough info to keep me coming back! :^)

      Wow Mary!
Tell me, is the ocean right over that cliff?
What a wonderful experience and thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us. I love the lore of Iceland. Can you imagine how hard life was 1000 years ago? Such a spectacular place. On my wish list is Scotland..I want to see all the ancient castles.

So many nice comments, and loves from toyrebel, kyra, scott, lundy, ken, thomas, olecody, burtm, kevin, watch, fort, vynil, karen:

Jenni - Iceland is so magical. But the only free thing was the delicious water, straight from the tap LOL.

Bill - yes, this whale was hung inside a large barn, high enough that it couldn't be messed with. :-)

Eileen - yes, that is the North Atlantic right there. Oh boy, we read many accounts of Viking warriors jumping off ship and swimming to shore - BURR! Very tough people. Scotland sounds like a wonderful trip :-)

Roycroft - I am not brave enough to go alone and I do a lot of research first and book all lodging ahead which helps a lot. Thank you, here's an original post about the trip: https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/201049-postcard-and-pictures-from-iceland

so you can see the taped up camera LOL
