This is a favorite Egyptian souvenir of mine even though I’ve only worn it twice in all these years.
It really screams “Egypt” with the capelet style and and the blue glazed stone scarabs.
The beads are glass. The clasp is metal but probably nothing special.
It is 4” wide so it covers my shoulders.
I wore it with a strapless black evening dress to a ballroom dance function once and got lots of compliments including being greeted by someone who exclaimed “ Nefertiti” as he approached.....like he had not seen me in a long time (like many centuries)....it was so funny and memorable! (I hope I spelled that name right!)
I actually just learned something when I made these photos to post: on the back on one scarab is a tiny sticker with “120” written on it.
I’m guessing that was the desired price in Egyptian pounds (exchange rate back then made the Egyptian pound equal to about 33 cents US).
Even though I bought this at a very nice shop in my hotel, it seems that no prices are really fixed...you are expected to haggle over everything and come down to a price mutually satisfactory.
I was using up my pound notes (except for a couple I kept as souvenirs) on my last day there but don’t recall the price I paid but I know it was not 120 pounds!
Thank you for looking!
