    1958 is stamped on the crossguard. That is correct for the time period so I am thinking that is the year it was made. There are other markings such as the serial number and maker's mark.
    This is an odd looking bayonet as the AK47 was not made to be used with a bayonet. Thus the open ring at the base of the bayonet. Some may be thinking about the AKs with the built in bayonets but those are actually the AKM and not the AK47. The AKM replaced the AK47 in 1959 so AK47s are AKMs. Main difference is that AKMs are made with stamped metal.
    The handle is an attractive reddish brown plastic and the blade I am not sure about. It is very light. Also it is 8 inches long. Almost forgot to mention the blade is inverted when it is mounted to a rifle. IE the blade is pointing upwards. When hand held (the way it is used 99% of the time) the edge is downward as is normal. Once again this is because the AK47 was not designed for a bayonet.
    The scabbard is metal with a leather frog. Workmanship is quite good, much better than the Chinese made pieces. Now offense to them but they tend to be a bit rough.

      It is neat looking. Pretty good adapting to make it fit a weapon never intended to have a bayonet. Customs(?) /ATF require having the bayonet removed from AKM's to be imported, my friend has one.

      This is a Polish (AK47) pre-type1 bayonet. This is "not" the Type 1 bayonet. These are referred simply as AK47 bayonet. The Poles adopted the AK47 in 1957. The Type1's were adopted around 1965.

      Designed for the milled AK's. The Oval 11 factory stamp is the giveaway and are on all Polish AK47 & bayonets from this particular time period. The oval 11 stamp also appears on all Polish later AKM's & AK74's.
