Adorable peapod! For Gillian, the 'r's are the tiny rhinestones in the curlicue stem of the pod, and agree they are really special

I think Broochman is spot on with the history. Because it is later, there is no patent that I have found. However, Boucher did all sorts of large vegetable brooches in the 1930s. Maybe there was a bit of borrowing an idea years later?
