Both look like they could have been boatwright tools. Possibly used to start the oakum before using the caulking iron and mallet.
That's what I was thinking Fhr.
I been looking through those type of tools, I appreciate everyone's input because not just for the item on display but were able to trace my father history and what it was he done before he was a truck driver. Thank you everyone
LueLuja Being a boatwright was a fine trade and a specialty. Unfortunately, years ago when they started making boat hulls out of fiberglass etc. the demand for a boatwright went downhill fast. Many men lost their jobs and moved on to other things. It was an example of technology putting people out of work. Sad but true.
And all this time, I was thinking it was because we are getting old & can't do anything.
Sorry, but it sure looks like a cutoff from a train rail to me.
I second the track cutoff ID. I've accumulated a few over the years; some used as bench anvils and a couple that are commemorative cutoffs from decommissioned track. Here's pics of a cuttoff being made and you can't argue with the similarity of the end product:
