These are two cute vintage stuffed animals, a donkey and lion, that we purchased a while back. They both have glass eyes, mohair fur, red felt mouths, and are stuffed with excelsior (wood wool). We have not been able to identify their maker(s), however. The donkey in particular has a dramatic expression and stands 15 inches tall. Sadly, the red felt in the lion's mouth has seen better days.

Any idea who might have made these guys or even what period they are from?

Thanks for the loves and comments!

Ms. CrystalShip, thanks for your comment on possible maker and period. Is there a good Steiff reference book for plush animals other than the bears? We saw some Steiff donkeys on the web that look similar, but this guy's eyes are rather intense. Most of the Steiff lions seem to have stitched noses, but the body and fur is similar to some Steiff lions. We are novices when it comes to vintage stuffed animals, just liked their sweet look and quality.

Also, I have seen some Schuco donkeys on the web that have similar wild eyes to this guy.
