I grew up with many Frankoma pieces at our family cottage in Northern Wisconsin. I believe my grandmother was responsible for their presence. They must have had an impact on me as I now actively seek additional pieces for the collection. Whenever I find a piece while I am at home in SE WI, I bring it to work to add to my "visual input library", lining the shelves, window sills and credenza top in my office. The glaze texture and colors and the design of the pieces themselves are inspirational for me. I typically seek out the more fluid organic shapes, although I have a couple wagon wheels and even a Texas shaped ashtray. I find most of the pieces at resale shops, a couple reasonable antique stores and at garage sales. I can usually find them from $2-$10, although the matching pitcher, mugs and tray was $28 for the lot. Sort of sad to see such well designed historic objects devalued so much. I'll keep looking . . .
