Among my many Austrian bronze pieces is this bronze bulldog by Franz Bergmann. This one would be from the very early 1900's, possibly late 1800's. Many of Franz Bergmann's bronze pieces, made prior to 1900, were unmarked, just as this one is. There appears to be a Franz Bergmann "Jug" mark on the left side of his tail, but not too sure if it's an actual maker's mark as most I've ever seen have been stamped onto the underside.
This one has quite a bit of paint loss, but still has his original red eyes. It's extremely detailed in every way. Every part of this one is very well defined, from his teeth and eyes, right down to his toes. He is solid bronze and measures 3 7/8" long, 2 3/16" tall and 1 5/8" at it's widest point. This one is shown on page 91 of the Antique Vienna Bronzes (Schiffer book).
Thanks for stopping in for a look!!
