Among my many Vienna, Austrian bronze pieces is this bronze bulldog. This one would be from the very early 1900's, possibly late 1800's. Many Vienna bronze pieces, made prior to 1900, were unmarked, just as this one is. There is a very faint 4-digit number stamped on his chest, which are only visible with a jewelers loupe.
This one has quite a bit of paint loss. It's extremely detailed in every way. Every part of this one is very well defined, from his teeth and eyes, right down to his toes. He is solid bronze and measures 3 7/8" long, 2 3/16" tall and 1 5/8" at it's widest point. This one is shown on page 92 of the Antique Vienna Bronzes (Schiffer book).
Thanks for stopping in for a look!!
