Spotted this a while back, but the shop was closed. Finally made it mine - yes, another basket, but as I'm not planning on moving house I'm permitting myself such an indulgence...
It's fanciful, loud, & busy...if fun was made of glass, I think this it what it would look like.
Made from two layers of cased glass - deep tangerine over yellow, it has an unusual folded over top rim studded with large hobnail bumps, & finished with a yellow & clear crested single crimp. There is a clear applied twisted thorn handle. Measures around 23 cm tall at the top of the handle, 20 cm wide across, & 7.5 cm across the base, which has a rough, snapped pontil mark.
I believe that it was made by Welz.

Many thanks, sklo42! I had a basket (not this fancy though) in this colourway many years ago, obtained cheaply as it was damaged...then later destroyed by a wayward feline. Nice to have a far more flamboyant example in mint condition!

It's delightfully off the wall, as so much Welz glass is...I have a feeling that there were some jolly folks designing their glass, as it tends to be brimming over with vivid colours & quirky shapes...
Some of the Welz production is just so crazy!!! Great basket.... I love it!!!
