I normally don't go for foil rock posters, but this is a serious exception. The design is by Seattle artist Brad Klausen, and the printing is by D&L. Dimensions are 24" x 18" and the print features only four colors on paper-backed silver rainbow foil. When I spoke to the artist this weekend about the problems of printing on foil, he said that bands and promoters routinely ask for foil variants, which are published in much smaller runs than the regular editions (this artist edition numbers 50). The problem, Klausen explained, is that foil is not always good for the image. As an artist, Klausen usually designs assuming there will be a white background, so when the background is changed to foil, the results can be underwhelming. In this case, though, he designed the image with foil in mind. The band's name and the poster's imagery also lend themselves to glints of steel. I think it just works. By the way, this photo is courtesy of the artist—it's really tricky to photograph foil posters.
