The signature I think is IH then says 1548.

Think you are right with the H H wonder if it’s some kind of old way of writing it ? Found nothing even similar so any help with solving the mystery much appreciated xx

I can't tell the species of wood but probably from Indonesia where things like this are mass produced for the American market.
