This pewter brooch with brass and carnelian (or red glass?) accents, commemorates the Battersea Shield. I forgot to measure it but I guess it is about 3" x 1.5". The Battersea Shield is about 2000 years old and was found in the River Thames in London in 1857. This was a $1 thrift shop find. I could find only two examples using an Internet search, one with the red stone and one with a blue stone. Guessing this is from the 1960s? Pewter is one of my favorite metals.
