The term for these souvenir beakers is ‘Ansichtenbecher’. It has been engraved and gilded with a scene of the spa in Salzbrunn in the 1950’s. The glass is an imitation of white alabaster and just sits comfortably in the hand. When you put it down it just seems grab the table. The foot is amazing, just beautifully sculpted. On each side there are two glass cut jewels that are surrounded by gilt moulding.
Geschnittene Ansicht "Salzbrunn". Böhmen um 1850. Weisser Alabasterglas goldstaffiert und mit bunten Glasperlen dekoriert.
Found in an op shop here amongst other white items. It has suffered a bit of wear to the gilding over the years but those glass jewels are still intact. I am very proud of it.
H : 10.5 cm
W : 8 cm.
This type of ware was done in the Gräflich Schaffgotsch`sche Josephinenhütte and I’m hoping mine is theirs too.
