This is a sweet two piece Victorian floriform fairy lamp. The cranberry form has a tulip shape with three rows of applied colourless petals. The shade has an etched signature, Clarke's Fairy Pyramid. The base is your typical Clarke's Fairy Lamp pressed glass base. I'm sure there is a fancier base to compliment. I've been entertaining the thought it is possible this floriform shade and other fairy lamp floriform shades are Bohemian and were commissioned by Clarke's. Third photo is a Samuel Clarke's advertisement from the Illustrated London News on November 15, 1890.

    Thanks, so much for looking!

Beautiful piece. I wonder who will confirm that your idea that floriform shades are Bohemian (Kralik, Loetz ... ) on order from Clarke's.

If they had ads like this now, I imagine that I and all the rest of the people would rush out to buy one of these beautes !~

Thank you, Kai. I'm glad you asked. There will be a follow up post to explain further. I think you will enjoy seeing the other example I have coming in the mail next week.

I agree, Phil! lol I love the way you think. There are so many things I wish we could still buy from. I always daydream when I browse through this Hosch / Kralik catalogue with many floriform type vases I have. Every time I go through those pages, it reminds me of when I was a child, and how I'd become so excited when the Sears Christmas catalog arrived because I wanted one of each. lol If it was possible to order these fairy lamps, I too would want one of each and I'm sure others including yourself would feel the same way with wanting a FL in every colour possible. lol

10s. & 6d. I don't know how much that would be today, and Phil is right we'd all have one or two! So very lovely.

Sorry, about that Ales! I see I've mistaken you for Kai. :)

Hi Gillian! Very interesting thought. You made me curious so I looked for a UK inflation calculator from the year 1890 and with the 10s, "s" for shilling, and 6d, "d" for pence would be 43,08 GBP in 2017. If this is correct, I'd say that is more than reasonable, but this is probably the wholesale price and the consumer would most likely pay double. Still at that price it does make it possible to own a few! lol Thanks, for saying it's lovely too. Much appreciated.
