Hello everyone! So I have always wanted one of these. I have been working at a antique shop for awhile now. Mostly because of my love of antiques. This came in in great working order. But now is not playing. Any ideas how to fix? Possibly oil? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really want to buy it. But not if I can get it working. Thanks for looking have a great weekend! Also is this called a music player?

Unfortunately my best advice is not going to be that great. It is gorgeous. I would keep an eye out on eBay and other sites for ones similar to that for a reasonable price that are not working in case you need parts

These old things are often f'd up by over winding. The steel gets brittle with age and almost impossible to replace. Bon chance

Thanks for your response. I really have always wanted one. But not if I can't get it working. Plus he's wanting way too much for it in not working order. It doesn't seem over wound. Because it still has room to wind. But guess best to wait for another one.

I'd more call it a 'music box' than 'music player', but that might just be me. Looks like a BEAUTIFUL (and *large*!) example too -- I bet it would sound glorious if you can find someone to help get it working again. French made, with 6 tunes on its spindle?? :-) :-) :-) I'd start by looking for a reputable clock repair type of place...if they can't fix it they'll probably know where to point you further to...?

I must agree with BB2. Over winding. If it can be fixed a clock maker or repair man (an old one) should be able to tell immediately what the problem is. Sometimes the spring can be released without problems or replaced.
