I found this mystery tool when my neighbor Mac died. I'm pretty certain he had it from his Mom's brother, Bill, who had a small machine shop. I never met Bill, but I have the impression that machine work was a hobby.

I should have made the point that 'mystery' means I'd love informed conjecture about what purpose this tool served.

It might be a custom made tool for a specific mechanical operation, maybe duplicating a specific bending operation. Guessing the resounding silence you hear is because no one recognizes or has a theory about this piece. I've never seen anything like it.

      I agree with Kwqd.

At first glance I thought I was looking a a saw set, (wrest type), but I agree with the first 2 posts, shop made tool for unknown purpose.

I agree w/kwqd and others that I've never seen anything quite like it, thus maybe a specific shop-made tool for some particular unique purpose. "Saw sets" are easy (and often accurate) guesses for things like this, maybe it really is one but in this case I'd tend to think otherwise...the configuration of its thumbscrews is most unusual indeed.

Truly hoping that someone else hanging around here really DOES recognize it as something...??
