Pretty fun bakelite find - 2"x1.5" cog edge hoop earrings from the 50's-60's. These are a chunky .25" thick with carving along the edge. I rarely wear earrings because I like an arm full of bracelets and pins on jackets but these are quiet enough to live with the other eye-candy. Plus, black goes with everything!

Dramatic black hoops with scalloped edges, these elegant earrings will wear with anything
Forgive me Mary, these are fabulous!
But when I first set eyes on these marvelous earrings , they reminded me of bicycle tires!
I totally adore them, as they would be very fun to wear and you’re right, black is classy and goes with everything!
Merry Christmas dear!
Ken - thank you for your nice comment :-)
Jenni - my thoughts too! Although the round carved bakelite screw-back earrings are more "period correct", I prefer dangly on fish hooks :-)
Eileen - yes - tire tred! So true - Merry Christmas to you too my dear!
CW friends thanks for your loves: Fort, Hel1, Thomas, aura!!
Mary, you touched a memory when you said, “I like an armful of bracelets.” So did my Mother..she used to jangle them, and say, “Eat your heart out”. Ha! One time my parents were driving through Arizona, and it was really hot. Mom had to remove her bracelets because the silver was heating up and nearly burned her arm! She never went anywhere without her silver....
Do they still make Bakelite? I love these earrings and always associated Bakelite with the 30s and didn't realize they made it into the 60s. And beyond?
Eileen, love your stories. Such great memories.
Eileen - YES, about silver heating up!! I have experienced that too.I love your Mama. :)
Maureen - the most desirable era is 1930's-40's. I don't know if they still use the traditional "bakelite" phenolic formulas now. Advances in plastics have been made. I can only trust plastics up to the 1970's - then they must have tweaked the formula because items don't give off that special chemical smell....
Thank you Kevin and kyra for your loves!
Fun and wonderful!
Thanks Elisabeth - I've already worn them a few times and just got them on the 19th!
