Frank Patania Jr (1932 to present) Swan cuff bracelet in 14K gold and amethyst. This cuff of my father’s demonstrates a departure from his father’s, Frank Patania Sr. (1899 to 1964) design and construction.
This cuff was fabricated by forging and joining forged elements to form the whole piece. The faceted amethyst is the focal point. Forging allowed him to create an elegant and graceful image of a swan with the variations in width throughout the design. His ability to design so that the swan (in this case) is integral to the cuff is unmatched.
My dad is a master metalsmith who worked in silver, gold, brass and cast bronze, aluminum and fabricated steel for sculpture. He learned to work in these various metals on his own to pursue his artistic interests.
My dad is also an amazing teacher to me and many others.
