I found a rock and after cleaning it this shell came from it. I been told by the looks of it , it could by super old. Like thousands of years old...is this true? The way you see it is the way it is. Color and all

I found a similar item at a yard sale up north years ago. I bought it for 50 cents. There is a picture and write up on my profile page. I tried to research it myself for years without much luck but a few hints. I finally used the appraisal link at the top of this page just to see what I could learn. It turned out to be quite rare and also quite valuable. You might enjoy reading my post.

What are the dimensions? You can add another picture- a side view would be nice.
Is picture 3 the bottom of the shell?
      This is very interesting!

i think it is a fossilized oyster or a related shell. it is probably millions of years old.

Here are more pictures and yes that is the back of the shell. I think the red color in it is stunning.

Thanks for the new pictures! I hope you find out more about it and update us here. I’m also thinking it’s prehistoric by the looks of the crystalline inside of the shell.
