Part of odds and ends that were received as a gift. Perhaps an insulator? How old? Looks like green lifesavers.

Insulator for an electric fence, maybe?
    2. Watizzzzit, 4 years ago
Thanks Watchsearcher! It came from a friend and was in with some old fossils, rocks and odds and ends so I figure it is old. Didn't think about it being an insulator for an electric fence. Will go with that!

If it is made of something more 'stone' than 'glass', maybe it was once part of an old lamp???

It looks like rings of green glass fused together. Literally about the size of a lifesaver. is exactly 1 1/2 inches tall.

If that's its actual size its prolly a little small for a fence insulator or a lamp part...that'd make the hole thru it abouts 1/4"...?? Maybe it was a "bead" instead, or part of a fancy handle for something??
    6. Watizzzzit, 4 years ago
Yes, the hole is a quarter inch in diameter. There are six rings. I thought that perhaps the size of exactly 1 1/2 inches might be important in insulators but never thought about being a bead. It shows no signs of wear although there are brown colorizations speckled through out it and does have small scratches on it.

I am inclined to think it is a five groove electric fence insulator. WISCONSIN PORCELAIN COMPANY and SUPERIOR PORCELAIN both made this design from 3/4" up to 6". Many other companies made them but the two named were ones I happen to recall from the boxes they came packed in.

I also agree on the fence insulator.

Appreciate it, fhrjr2 and iggy. Have been wondering what this was for some time. Now I know!
