I've been helping a friend do some work on a rental house he used to live in. He gave me this Sansui amp he had in a shed. It's a Sansui Quadraphonic QRX 5500 220 watt amp/reciever. The info on line said it was made from '73-'74. I've got a link in the comments with all the. specs etc. I'm no audiophile, but I've always love good sounding systems. I will note this thing is unbelievably heavy! I never had a high quality system back in the day, but it seemed like everybody had one. The only thing I had was an Electrophonic combination set up with a reciever, turntable and 8 track that I got for graduation in '71. It was not a good system by any means, but I'd never heard a high quality sound system before at that time. Once I heard a good system, I NEVER turned the Electrophonic on again. This Sansui would have been way out of my range at that time. All the lights work and signal strength meter moves when I tune through known stations, but I don't have any speakers to test it.

I was a big time audiophile (but not a purist). I subscribed to Stereo Review knew what THD an 20-20kz meant and all that. The old equipment had all kinds of fun knobs and switches with VU and other meters. All great fun.

Thanks Apache, I loved the great sounding systems if that era. I knew a guy(Jeff) that wound up going to tech school for electronics with me. He was the most knowledgeable and unbiased audiophile I've ever known. I was on a health kick at that time and would do some jogging. Jeff started jogging with me. He lived nearby and we would return to his house. He knew EVERY audio vendor in town. Each week he would borrow different components and have a set up to check out. The best one to me had Magnaplanar speakers, I can't remember the amp or turntable, but It was the best I had heard at that time ('78).
My current speaker set-up are still 1982 140 watt Kenwoods that still rattle my walls! Keep Rockin!
Iggy, a friend had a killer Kenwood set up in '70s. I remember it well, it was one of the best I've heard in my lifetime. And I knew some serious audiophiles that had everything(I didn't have anything) and that Kenwood would hang with them, especially in clarity which is what I like. That Kenwood floored me the first time I heard it.
Blast from the past! I was in Japan in the early and mid-70s so had a $6-$7K four channel system for about $3k. Pioneer QX-8000 amp, Techniques Quad 8-track (don't remember the model), Nakamichi 1000 cassette deck, Teac A2340R Reel to Reel, Sansui SD-5050(?) reel to reel (I did a lot of speed taping, so needed multiple machines), Bose 901 fronts and 501 rears...), etc. Also had assorted other speakers, amps and decks. I thought I wanted to be a sound technician after the service and did do that for a few years in a studio. I ran sound for Buddy Rich, Oak Ridge Boys, and some other high profile artists. I worked for several well known acoustic blues and blue grass artists but was not into that kind of music so didn't bother to remember their names. Really got into acoustic blues later and often wonder who those guys were.... Mostly old black guys.... You have to keep crazy hours, and gigs take all the prime partying time, so I bailed on it... Gear all gone now except for my Teach A2340R deck.
