    I've seen these before, but i can't remember what they are for. At least some of the parts are hand-forged. I'll probably use them to hang plants, whatever they are. i got them for $3 each, just cuz i'm curious.

      i've seen these before. there must be someone out there who recognizes what these tools were used for.

      These are trammels. One was used hanging in a fireplace to raise or lower a cooking pot. A household seldom needed two.

      I must say I love them now that I know what they are for (even tho I’ve never cooked in an open fireplace and hope I never have to)!

      thank you slackjack! i knew i'd seen them before. we uncovered some in old fireplaces in Portsmouth, NH a long time ago. i couldn't remember where i'd seen them. trammels... hmmm!
